JOB TITLE: Database Administrator

Working as a database administrator for the Information Services and Operations department

The FINCA headquarters are in Dar es Salaam.

Bank databases on various platforms (Oracle, MSSQL, Core Banking, Other Applications, Cloud (AWS), and Big Data/SQL) require technical leadership from a Database Administrator who ensures day-to-day support. The efficient and secure management of an organization’s databases is the responsibility of the database administrator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Database system design and implementation, including but not limited to Oracle, MS SQL, and other environments as required.
•Utilize existing policies and procedures to tune, monitor, and optimise database performance, as well as upgrade databases and their patches.
•Design both physical and logical databases, as well as install applications and script the Linux shell.
•Conduct comprehensive backups of databases and store data in a secure location.
Replication of core application databases must be operational in accordance with business continuity standards.
•Overseeing the controls for access and database security.
•Develop and oversee the administration of data standards, rules, and procedures; analyse and prepare for changes in data capacity requirements
Creates and maintains databases by carrying out capacity planning.
•Guide the planning, creation, and management of databases to back up production processes
•Conceive of, plan, and direct database-related tasks and projects The project of data migration and integration is being supported.
•Assist with the development and management of various Oracle application environments through programming and administration
•Keep all application databases and the core banking system up and running at peak performance.
Ensures end users adhere to standards, policies, and procedures; adheres to and supports IS systems
•Systems are monitored daily to guarantee that databases and apps are available at all times.
•Configure databases used by the Core Banking System and other applications with parameters derived from the needs analysis.
•Collaborates closely with the infrastructure and application teams to resolve reported incidents and issues in a timely manner.
It is important to thoroughly analyse, characterise, and resolve all reported and recorded difficulties and to document the resolutions.
•Regularly review databases and monitor their uptime and performance.
•Analyze change requests and manage the change process in close collaboration with the project manager.
•Conduct thorough analysis and record findings in systems that adhere to established standards and knowledge bases.

Background and Work
An advantage would be having certification in database administration in addition to a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a similar profession.
•A minimum of two years of relevant work experience

Education and Experience

Knowledge of application hosting platforms (e.g., WebLogic, Apache, IIS, Tomcat, etc.), as well as basic programming languages (e.g., PHP, C#, and Java) and core banking system concepts
•Familiarity with several database management systems
Administratorial experience with Linux and Windows operating systems; familiarity with platforms for creating reports.
Having experience with the Orbit-Rubicon Core Banking Application would be a plus, as would knowledge of ITIL, DBA, Oracle, and MS SQL.
